Founded in 1899, Sonoco Products Company is one of the world’s largest makers of industrial and consumer packaging used by the food, consumer products, construction and automotive industries. 

Sonoco needed to optimize its planning and scheduling process across a dynamic manufacturing network and multiple divisions. 

Network complexity

Sonoco managed a complex network of divisions and plants that operated using customized and visual scheduling practices.

Inventory

High inventory levels had become an issue due to standard two-week lead times, and there was no efficient way to address unique demand changes at a production level.

Solutions

Sonoco’s largest division, Tubes and Cores, serves the paper, textile, plastic film, tape and specialty industries. It was the starting point for the new company’s scheduling initiative.
