AberdeenGroup Highlights Logility Consumer Goods Customer in New Best Practices in Transportation Management Report
ATLANTA (July 27, 2005) Logility (NASDAQ: LGTY), a leading supplier of collaborative solutions to optimize the supply chain, today announced that one of its consumer goods customers is featured in a new AberdeenGroup research report, “Best Practices in Transportation Management.” The consumer goods manufacturer, which has five distribution centers, 1,300 shipments per day and a $25 million annual freight spend, was recognized for excellence in customer service and warehouse optimization, and for significant freight savings over the past three consecutive years. The company uses Logility Voyager Transportation Planning & Management™ to help save time, labor and freight costs by automating shipment planning and execution all while improving customer service with a tightly integrated order fulfillment process.
“The consumer goods manufacturer used its pre-Logility year as its baseline for benchmarking results. In the first year of using the Logility transportation system, the company saved $1.7 million over the baseline year,” the report notes. “In year two, the savings rose to $2.8 million over baseline. And in year three, the results were $3.7 million over the baseline. Logility automatically tracks savings against a baseline cost per order.”
The Logility consumer goods customer required a transportation management system to consolidate orders into optimized shipments, and also recognized a need to reengineer its order fulfillment process to capitalize on greater visibility and consolidation opportunities. “The IT and business groups defined 32 ‘must have’ categories for the system, and Logility’s Voyager Transportation Planning and Management system was the only one that met all the criteria,” the report states.
“The best transportation operations are becoming the central hub for synchronizing their enterprises with suppliers and customers,” said Beth Enslow, Aberdeen vice president of enterprise research and author of the report. “Using Logility, this consumer goods manufacturer has taken the lead on recommending shipment schedules to prioritize warehouse activities and maximize consolidation opportunities while meeting customer-specific service level requirements.”
A second change involved getting the company’s customer service department and transportation teams working together to synchronize and improve the efficiency of the ordering and fulfillment process. The Logility system has robust what-if scenario planning capabilities that enable the transportation staff to examine the theoretical savings for a variety of shipment plans. As a result of better visibility and collaboration between the customer service and transportation teams, the company made changes to synchronize replenishment, promotional and retail orders, balance fulfillment workloads, and understand the cost of order changes. Logility also enables the company to track missed freight savings opportunities by customers, which identifies opportunities for future additional savings.
