Potlatch Corporation

"Frankly, Logility was the only vendor that had all the capabilities that Potlatch would need across our various divisions." - Roger Schmitt, Manager of Transportation Services, Potlatch

Company

Potlatch is a diversified wood and paper company that operates 1.5 million acres of timberlands in Arkansas, Idaho, Minnesota and Oregon that supply the raw materials for the company's wood products, including strand board, plywood, particleboard and lumber. The company makes bleached kraft pulp and paperboard products. It also produces retail private label and store-brand paper products such as napkins, towels and facial tissue.

Problem

Potlatch could no longer cope with its transportation challenges using outdated manual processes and a rudimentary legacy shipment rating system. With a complex transportation environment with multiple modes of transport- including rail, truckload, LTL, parcel, ocean, barge and intermodal-Potlatch needed a reliable, full-featured transportation management system that would fully automate its transportation planning and execution processes and reduce transportation expenses.

Solution

Potlatch implemented Logility Voyager Transportation Planning and Management™, and dramatically increased visibility to transportation rates and historical shipment information, including cost information and key performance indicators for lanes, carriers and cost-per-ton-mile tracking; enabled direct payment (self-invoicing) for 99% of shipments; implemented a real-time interface to multiple order systems; supported EDI billing of rail shipments; enabled real-time callable rating for all modes, including Rule 11; and provided Intranet-based reporting that allows users to control reports.
